HOUSE ASAGAYA

This project was designed for a couple living in Asagaya, Tokyo.
They came to our office because they were not satisfied with the design of their house located in a crowded downtown area, which did not reflect their wishes.
Due to the small site and surrounding buildings that were three stories high, the client requested for the living room to be on the third floor so there would be a view.
They also wanted to lend their neighbor a parking lot.
The building volume has been cleared as requested by the client.
We planned an open space in front of the house for a parking lot as wide as possible, and the second floor to hang over the parking lot.
The stair switches to the overhanging space on the second floor to provide maximum space for the public space on the third floor.
The outside stair connects the third floor and the roof balcony, which is used as a garden and also designed with an opening to let the sunlight go through.
This way the stair space also functions as a light court.
We also designed the high ceiling height for the living room and the windows on the high point on the wall so that we could create a spacious and bright living room.
We created the building to be individual rather than being connected with the neighbors because it is difficult to have a nice view in the middle of a crowded building area.
